Do you guys do anything special to clean up an engine that has lost a compressor? It's on a Cat C-10 and the paint is burned over both of the bearing areas on the comp. I figure I'll do a good inspection of the drive gear and change the oil and filter. Just wondering if there is anything else I should do to be sure I get most of the debris. Thanks, Tim

Thanks David, I shouldn't have assumed it would be easy. It sheared the compressor drive gear off and spit some teeth into the front gear assembly so I'll be pulling the cover to get a better picture. YEEHAAA!

Now that sounds like fun! I love making custom harness's , don't breathe too much solder smoke!
So my disaster ended up eating the comp. drive gear, aux. drive gear, idler gear and the cam gear, miraculously the crank gear survived. I'd like to pull the cam without pulling the head, so I ordered a CAT tool called a cam pilot tool. Apparently I can use it to remove and then install a cam if the followers are wired out of the way. Have you used something like this before?

Depends if you are removing the cam from the front or rear - same kit but ones got another alignment tool with it and a couple of more lifting cradles with it - you,ll have enough to do the job , just be careful not to mark cam bearings on remove and install . Regards David
